Rimoni Industries

Rimoni – Plastic Injection Molding for Defense & Aerospace

Defense and aerospace industries increasingly rely on engineering polymers to reduce weight, integrate complex functions and maintain reliable performance in demanding environments.

At Rimoni, we provide a complete range of plastic manufacturing capabilities for defense and aerospace programs, including engineering and DFM, industrial design, material selection, in-house mold design and manufacturing, precision injection molding, insert and over-molding, assembly and serial production. All of these capabilities are managed within one manufacturing group, with close attention to quality, repeatability, delivery requirements and program confidentiality.

We support customers from an individual molded component through complex, long-term manufacturing programs. Because some defense and aerospace projects are subject to confidentiality restrictions, customer names, applications and project details are published only where disclosure is permitted.

Why Plastic Matters in Defense & Aerospace

For the right application, engineering polymers can replace metal parts while reducing weight and simplifying the product architecture. In defense, UAV and aerospace systems, these advantages can directly support mobility, payload capacity, assembly efficiency and long-term durability.

  • Weight reduction – replacing suitable metal components with engineering polymers can reduce system weight and support improved mobility, payload capacity and energy efficiency.
  • Corrosion resistance – polymers do not rust and can provide an advantage in humid, saline and chemically demanding environments when the correct material is selected.
  • Design flexibility – plastic injection molding allows complex features such as ribs, clips, cable paths, fastening points and structural details to be integrated into a single component, potentially reducing assembly operations and interfaces.
  • Electrical and thermal characteristics – selected engineering polymers can provide electrical insulation and help protect sensitive electronic systems.

Plastic Injection Molding for Defense & Aerospace

Step 1: Understanding the Requirements and Operating Environment

Defense and aerospace manufacturing begins long before the injection molding machine is started. Our engineering teams review the actual product requirements together with the customer: mechanical loads, operating temperatures, impact and vibration, exposure to water or chemicals, dimensional requirements, surface finish, assembly interfaces and expected production volumes.

Step 2: Selecting the Right Engineering Polymer

Material selection is based on the requirements of the specific application. Depending on the program, engineering polymers may include:

  • PC (Polycarbonate) – high impact resistance with optional transparency.
  • PA (Nylon) – high mechanical strength with good wear and chemical resistance.
  • POM (Acetal) – dimensional stability, strength and low-friction performance for suitable applications.
  • Glass- or carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers – used where higher stiffness and mechanical performance are required at relatively low weight.

Step 3: Precision Mold Design and Manufacturing

The mold is a critical part of the production system. Rimoni designs and manufactures molds in-house, using advanced CAD/CAM, CNC machining and decades of tooling experience to support dimensional stability, repeatable production and long mold life. Learn more about our in-house tooling capabilities.

Step 4: Controlled Injection Molding

The molding process is developed and controlled according to the part geometry, selected material and program requirements. Critical parameters may include:

  • Mold and material temperature
  • Injection and holding pressure
  • Cooling time and process stability
  • Material preparation and defined environmental conditions where required

Step 5: Quality Control and Documentation

Inspection and validation requirements are defined according to the component, customer and program. Depending on the application, quality controls may include:

  • Dimensional inspection – measurement of critical dimensions using appropriate metrology equipment, including CMM where required.
  • Mechanical or functional testing – according to the drawing, specification or agreed validation plan.
  • Environmental testing – where required by the customer or program, including temperature, humidity, vibration or other defined conditions.
  • Visual inspection – evaluation of appearance, molding defects and defined cosmetic requirements.

Parts are released according to the applicable inspection plan, customer requirements and approved manufacturing documentation.

Rimoni – A Manufacturing Partner for Defense & Aerospace

Defense and aerospace manufacturing requires more than advanced equipment. It requires engineering judgment, dependable tooling, controlled production, responsiveness and an understanding of the confidentiality and continuity requirements that characterize long-term programs.

Since 1954, Rimoni has developed broad manufacturing capabilities across engineering, mold making, injection molding and assembly. This integrated structure enables us to support both individual components and complex programs while keeping engineering, tooling and production closely connected.
